PULAKSI COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– One person is dead following an accident involving a school bus.

It happened on HWY 914 near W Rose Court.

A witness who lives nearby tells LEX 18 that the bus doors had just closed when a man driving a Chevy Impala slammed into the back of the bus. That man was identified as 38-year-old Justin Vanover, of Stearns. Vanover died from his injuries at the scene.

He went on to say the car caught fire, so the bus driver tried to drive up a little to get away from it, but ended up dragging the car.

All the kids were pulled off the bus and they are fine. They were quickly put on another bus and taken away from the scene.

Witnesses at the scene said that the school bus was stopped with its lights and stop sign activated when the vehicle Vanover was operating hit the school bus at speeds between 55 and 65 miles per hour.
