Driver Of Semi Killed In Fiery Crash

Posted

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE 3) – At least one person was killed in a semi fire in downtown Louisville on Monday.

It happened around 5:20 p.m. at Brook Street and Broadway, near the I-65 North exit ramp.

Police say the semi driver lost control and hit several fixed objects before coming to a final rest.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police could not confirm where the semi was traveling from and the body has not been identified.

“The flames were so intense you could start hearing stuff melt on the truck,” bystander Richard Robinson told WAVE 3 News.

Robinson said seconds before the fire started he and a friend, Joe Graves, were standing on the corner. Graves said he saw the semi lose control on the exit ramp.

“He was rolling when he came through here,” Graves said. “I am surprised he didn’t go on through across the road.”

Graves said he saw the semi plow through the grass and hit several poles and utility lines. The crash left many in the nearby area without power.
