Person Wanted For Reportedly Pointing Laser At Passing Aircraft

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Law enforcement officials are looking for the individual responsible for pointing lasers at passing aircraft.

According to a post from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 9 p.m. Monday Johnson 911 received a report from Indianapolis Air Traffic Control regarding three commercial aircraft being struck by a green laser light.

The pilots reported the laser originating approximately 5 miles south of an airport near Paintsville, which appears to be the Big Sandy Regional Airport.

Officials later added that the strikes may have originated somewhere near Ky. Route 194 in Floyd County.

The laser was able to strike the aircrafts at the approximate altitude of 34,000 feet.

No planes have crashed. No injuries have been reported regarding aircraft personnel.
