LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– University of Kentucky leaders want to make sure Saturday’s big game versus Georgia is safe for fans.

Leaders are expected to make an announcement Friday at the Gatton Student Center- the goal is to keep fans safe by offering $20,000 in discounts for the ride sharing service, Lyft.

The school is partnering with the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, Keeneland, the Coalition of Ignition Interlock Manufacturers, and others to make this happen.

Between noon and 2 a.m. Saturday, a $20 discount will apply to rides to and from the game plus several other Lexington locations.

This comes after a 4-year-old was killed while walking along the side of the road with family during a football game earlier this season. Police suspected the driver was drinking that day.

Our goal is to stop drunk driving recidivism,” said David Kelly, Executive Director of the Coalition of Ignition Interlock Manufacturers. “Last year, there were 24,357 drunk driving arrests across Kentucky and we believe we can be part of the solution to stop repeat offenses.  But preventing the first offense is the best solution so we’re glad to participate in this effort to keep SEC fans safe.”
