Boyd County Man Surrenders After 5 Hour Standoff

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A man is in custody after a standoff with police in Boyd County that lasted more than five hours.

It happened Monday at an apartment on Harrison Street in Ashland.

Police arrested 41-year-old Virgil Vanhoose after he allegedly held two women hostage while police were following up on arrest warrants for Vanhoose.

Apartments surrounding the standoff had to be evacuated, and other neighbors were told to stay inside.

Both hostages were able to escape, and neither were hurt.

Vanhoose surrendered just after 7:30 p.m. Monday night.

He is facing charges of kidnapping and serving a parole violation warrant.
