Richmond Elects Its First African-American Mayor

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A mayoral race in Madison County ended with historic results.

Robert Blythe is now the City of Richmond’s first African-American mayor.

According to the Richmond Register, he was born and raised in Richmond and attended Eastern Kentucky University.

Blythe has been on the city commission since 2002, where he was the only black member.

Blythe says that he wants African American children to know that doors are open to them.
