(LEX 18)– Kentucky ranks poorly in another new report, this one regarding health outcomes.

The rates of diabetes and obesity have increased nationwide and Kentucky ranks fourth highest for diabetes, behind West Virginia, South Carolina, and Mississippi.

Researchers from Gallup and Sharecare found more than 11 percent of adults had type 2 diabetes in 2016, up from more than 10 percent in 2008.

When it comes to obesity, more than 28 percent were obese in 2016, up from 26 percent in 2008.

Obesity is a key risk factor in the development of type 2 diabetes.
