RICHMOND, Ky. (LEX 18) -The Richmond Police Department has announced a joint operation with Madison County School Transportation to identify individuals who disregard activated school bus signs.

Police want to remind drivers that motorists that passing a school or church bus with a stop arm extended and lights activated is a misdemeanor offense.

In Indiana, three children were killed and another was seriously injured when officials say a driver ran the extended arm of a school bus.

Richmond Police say this is their first time conducting a targeted campaign against drivers that ignore school bus signs.
