LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– The Blue Grass Airport was busy Wednesday as many people took to the skies to reach their holiday destinations.

It was especially busy Wednesday morning as more than a half dozen flights took off in the first few hours.

Airline Trade Associations project a record 30 million people will fly to their destinations the week of Thanksgiving. Wednesday is the second busiest day with Sunday expected to be the busiest.

“We’ve never done this before. We usually have driven at Thanksgiving, but since we moved here, it’s just much easier to fly,” said Mary Edwards who is traveling to Chicago.

Employees at Blue Grass Airport tell LEX 18 that flights are expected to spread out evenly.
