(LEX 18) — LG&E and KU has posted a video showing how the utility uses its drone technology to help with repairs after a major storm.

The footage shows how the utility partners with Kentucky-based VizionAir to find snapped lines in hard-to-access areas.

The utility says a winter storm last week knocked out power to about 150,000 customers, bringing down 2,500 wires.

“We’re continually assessing new technologies that will allow us to more efficiently and safely serve our customers,” John Wolfe, vice president-Electric Distribution Operations, said in a statement. “While we’re still evaluating the use of this technology as part of our day-to-day operations, it was extremely beneficial to have an overhead birds-eye view during last week’s storm.”
