KSP: 2 Injured After Confronting Theft Suspects

CANEYVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18)– Two Grayson County residents were injured after police say they attempted to confront thieves on their property.

According to police, officers were called to a shooting that happened near Richland Road.

Preliminary investigation shows  Johnnie Hayes of Caneyville and Wanda Ferguson of Rosine observed individuals attempting to steal items from a barn located on their property. Hayes and Ferguson attempted to follow the individual(s) in an unknown vehicle after it left the property. 

Police say the two then confronted the individuals near their residence on Richland Road and shots were fired. Both Hayes and Ferguson sustained gunshot wound injuries.

Hayes was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and Ferguson was flown to Vanderbilt University for non-life-threatening injuries and was later released. 

KSP say at this point no one has been charged in the incident.
