LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Finding that perfect, freshly cut Christmas tree this season might not be as easy as you think.

Tom Nieman, owner of Nieman’s tree farm, had a good plan for this year’s Christmas tree-selling season.  He had a pre-tagging service, meaning many trees pickup up Wednesday were actually purchased when most were still thinking of Jack O’ Lanterns.

“Since the first of October, they’ve been coming and they tag the tree they want, pay for it then, and come back and get it whenever they need it,” said Nieman.

This means that Nieman’s farm could have a lower inventory as they can only cut so many in a given season.

“In the neighborhood of a thousand a year, otherwise, we’ll lose our rotation if we cut more,” he said.

Nieman said that the big store retailers will have plenty, but if you prefer the freshly cut, you’ll need to go ahead and get the chainsaw.

“When we reach our limit, then we have to shut down. We don’t have any choice,” said Nieman.
