LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– A man is back in custody after being accused of trying to escape from the Fayette County Detention Center.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday night at the jail, which is near the intersection of New Circle and Old Frankfort Pike.

Police say Youcef Brahimi waited until a staff member opened a locked door and then ran through.

We’re told he then ran down a hallway to a locked door leading outside, where he pushed a button to master control trying to open the door.

An officer alerted master control about the escape attempt and Brahimi was caught.

He now faces several additional charges including escape.
