CDC Report: US Life Expectancy Down Due To Overdoses, Suicides

(LEX 18)– A new CDC report shows life expectancy in the US has dropped due to a rise in drug overdoses and suicides.

And Kentucky scores poorly, with the fifth highest rate of drug overdose deaths in the nation.

CDC research shows overall drug overdose deaths in Kentucky in 2017 was a staggering 1,469.

The top five counties for drug overdoses are: Jefferson, Fayette, Kenton, Campbell and Boone counties.

The new report shows the average US life expectancy dropped to 78.6 years in 2017, down slightly from 2016.
