BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A woman is dead after a weekend house fire in Boyd County.

It happened around noon Saturday in the 2700 block of Montgomery Avenue in Ashland.

The coroner later identified the woman as 84-year-old Dora Brown.

Officials say her nephew tried to run into the house and save her, but could not breathe or see through the smoke.

Brown’s two sons were inside the home when the fire started and were rescued by two Ashland police officers.

We’re told those two officers were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
