(LEX 18) — A security website has drawn up a list of what it deems “Kentucky’s 20 Safest Cities of 2018,” noting that overall the commonwealth enjoys a violent crime rate that’s 25 percent lower than the national average.

SafeWise made their list of safe Kentucky cities based on analysis FBI crime statistics from 2016. The cities were evaluated based primarily on violent crimes, with some consideration made for property crimes.

“Although Kentucky’s property crime rate is slightly higher than the national average, its violent crime rate is lower” SafeWise security analyst Alexia Chianis said in a statement. “In fact, the Bluegrass State reports a 25 percent lower violent crime rate than the national average — and among Kentucky’s 20 safest cities, violent offenses are even less commonplace. Compared to the nation as a whole, these cities cited an astonishing 95 percent fewer violent crimes for every 1,000 individuals.”
