FORT KNOX, Ky. (WAVE) – Fort Knox paid tribute to the life of the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush, on Monday, with cannon fire every 30 minutes, per Army regulations.

The cannon fire started at reveille (6:30 a.m.) and ended at retreat (5 p.m.) Monday.

“When we lose a president, we fire an honorary gun salute,” Major General John Evans, of Fort Knox said. “It usually is done on the day of the president’s death, but in this case, because it was a weekend, we move to the next duty day.”
