CYNTHIANA, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Harrison County Health Department reports that there is one confirmed case of hepatitis A at a Cynthiana restaurant.
The case was reported in an employee at the Red State Barbeque on US 27 in Cynthiana.
The owner tells LEX 18 that the restaurant is shut down.
The Health Department didn’t immediately have more information but tells LEX 18 that they will release a time frame of when the affected employee worked there.
Hepatitis A is transmitted by oral contact with fecal matter. It attacks the liver and causes symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, fever and jaundice. Health officials recommend individuals be vaccinated against the disease. Frequent handwashing also helps prevent the spread of hepatitis A.
