VERSAILLES, Ky. (LEX 18)– The friendship between the Farish and Bush families runs deep.

“When he went to run for Senate in 1964, dad was his very first personal aide,” said Bill Farrish.

George H.W. Bush and Will Farish remained close after that and the Bush family often stayed at the Farish’s “Lane’s End” farm in Versailles.

The 41st President was even a godfather to one of the Farish’s daughters.

“He would send little momentos to her with notes that he was so famous for sending,” said Bill.

Bill eventually followed in his father’s footsteps, and in his late 20’s, worked as President Bush’s personal aide during the final 20 months of his term in the oval office.

“I pinched myself every day I was on that job,” said Bill. “I was telling a story the other day of a thing I had done that was not up to standard. It would’ve been an opportune time for him to lay into me, and he didn’t at all,” he said.

Bill said that George H.W Bush was equal parts grace and toughness.

“To have that kind of fortitude and to be such a decent, humble, kind person. You don’t find that combination very often,” he told LEX 18.
