POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– There are no reported injuries after an early morning fire in Powell County.

According to dispatch, the call came in around 12:27 a.m. Friday from someone driving by a two-story house on Winchester Road.

An elderly woman was home and asleep when she woke up to the sound of the fire popping. She went downstairs and realized she needed to get out of the house.

When officials arrived on scene, the home was 50 percent engulfed. They say the fire was tough to fight because it was so windy.

Despite the efforts of fire crews, the home is a total loss. A brand new car was damaged as well.

The homeowner told officials she’d been having issues with her electricity lately, so they think it could have been an electrical issue that started the fire.

Dispatch confirms that Estill County and Clark County fire departments were also called to help.
