LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The annual “A Coat To Keep The Cold Away” coat drive is coming to a close. The organizer says they still need about 1,000 new coats to fulfill all their requests.

Local artist and activist Devine Carama says the number of requests for brand new winter coats has increased this year. Last weekend, Carama walked in the cold to Morehead to raise awareness. Last year, he stood out in the cold and rapped for 48 hours to bring attention to how many individuals don’t have proper winter weather gear.

The last day to donate will be Monday, Dec. 17.

The organization only accepts brand new coats or cash donations.
