CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A woman accused of killing her newborn baby made an appearance in court Friday.

21-year-old Amber Bowling pled not guilty to one charge of murder.

According to Kentucky State Police, the remains of a child were found by neighbors at an apartment complex in Manchester on Tuesday.

An autopsy showed that the baby died from injuries related to blunt-force trauma, according to the coroner. Bowling’s arrest citation said the baby had a cranial fracture, fractured ribs, and the infant’s brain had bled.

The citation goes on to say that Bowling told police she had given birth to the child Sunday, then placed the crying baby in the trash bag and threw it over the upstairs banister of the apartment complex.

She has been given a public defender.

Her next court date is 9:30 a.m. Dec. 27 .

No bond was discussed.
