FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) -After much speculation, Ret. Lt. Col. Amy McGrath put to bed any rumors that she would throw her hat in the Commonwealth’s gubernatorial race in 2019.

McGrath announced her decision via social media Friday afternoon.

“… after lots of consideration, I will not be a candidate for any statewide office in 2019. That doesn’t mean I’ll stop working for the values and beliefs we all care about. I deeply wish to help move Kentucky and our country forward and I can assure you that I will continue to speak out on the important issues of the day,” wrote McGrath.

McGrath lost a highly-publicized race for Kentucky’s sixth congressional district seat. Incumbent Rep. Andy Barr retained his seat after the race which garnered national attention.

So far, Democrats Andy Beshear and Rocky Adkins have announced they will seek Governor Matt Bevin’s seat.
