MT. STERLING, Ky. (LEX 18)– A New Year’s Day police chase on I-64 had several drivers pulling over and pulling out their smartphones to record the scene.

LEX 18 viewers sent us cell phone video of the chase that was headed towards Lexington.

“They conducted a traffic stop on her and during the traffic stop, she ended up fleeing,” said Detective Chris Haddix with the Mt. Sterling Police Department.

Police say they originally found Tiffany Watkins passed out in a parking lot. After executing a welfare check, getting her off the roads became a top priority.

“They did feel comfortable in the things that were happening, and did not deem anything to be in excess,” said Haddix.

At the southern split, with the help of Clark County law enforcement, they were able to bring the chase to a peaceful end.

Watkins is now facing nine charges, including wanton endangerment, evading police and driving under the influence. Police say that she put a lot of people’s lives in danger and now she will have to answer for that.

She is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Montgomery County District Court.
