ORLANDO, Fla. (LEX 18)– New Year’s Day marked a historic day for UK football as the Cats topped Penn State in the Citrus Bowl.

Thousands of True Blue fans made the journey to Orlando and among them was the Cope family.

Preston Cope was one of two students killed in the Marshall County High School shooting almost a year ago.

UK flew Preston’s mom Teresa, his dad Brian, and 12-year-old brother Maddox to Orlando for the Citrus Bowl.

The day before the game, they met running back Benny Snell.

They got an autographed jersey and Snell was given a bracelet that he wore during the game. It had a message to “play like Preston.”

“The bracelet is not just a bracelet,” said Brian Cope. “It is a reminder of our son Preston and his faith and love of god and sports and UK.”
