Lexington Police Department Warns Residents Of Phone Scam

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– The Lexington Police Department wants to warn residents of a local scam.

They received a call from a concerned citizen who says they received a message as “urgent” from a person claiming to be a Lexington Police Officer. When the number was called back the person answered, “Lexington Police.”

The citizen was then asked to send money by Green Dot Card to a US Marshal’s Office in Arlington, Virginia.

The person on the phone threatened to arrest the individual if they did not comply.
