WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police and school officials in Wolfe County are hoping to find the person or people responsible for destroying an athletic field.

There’s only one field for all of Wolfe County’s 1,245 students. It’s shared by the soccer and football teams, and used for community activities.

After the field was vandalized days ago, school officials have been struggling to respond.

Someone apparently drove onto the field, ripping up the turf.

Officials say the district has limited financial resources and that they may not have money for the new football program.

“We are trying to build opportunities for our kids to be able to get out of their home and to do things that are positive and to help them in their life to take a positive direction,” said Wolfe County Schools Superintendent Kenny Bell. “The money we do have now, that we don’t have now, some of that’s going to be to fix the field.”

Officials are asking anyone with information about the crime to call police or the Wolfe County Board of Education.
