GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Officials say one person was killed in a crash Saturday night in Garrard County.

Kentucky State Police say the crash occurred about 5:40 p.m. on U.S. Highway 27 at Sutton Lane.

Troopers say a pickup truck was pulling out from Sutton when it was struck by a minivan that was headed southbound on U.S. 27.

Officials tell LEX 18 that multiple people involved were taken to area hospitals.

“No one wakes up in the morning and says they’re gonna die in a motor vehicle collision, and yet it happens everyday. It happens way too much. One time is way too much,” said Trooper Toney Dollins. “So, you know, abide by the posted speed limits. Anytime you come to an intersection, look both ways — even if you have a green light, even if you have the right-of-way. These laws are in place to keep you safe, not to impede your travel times.”

Traffic was backed up on U.S. 27 for hours as police worked to reconstruct the crash.
