CHARLESTON, W. Va. (LEX 18)– Derek Keeling, an actor and graduate of UK’s Theatre Department, passed away suddenly at the age of 38.
Derek Keeling passed away Dec. 12, 2018. An obituary running in theCharleston Gazette says that he passed away suddenly.
Keeling was best known for his appearance on “Grease: You’re the One That I Want.” The reality series was casting a revival of ‘Grease’. Keeling placed third but eventually made his way to Broadway in the role of Danny Zuko.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Valley Park Conference Center in Hurricane, W.Va.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Musical Theatre Department at the University of Kentucky Scholarship Fund in Derek’s name.
The College of Fine Arts posted the news to their Facebook page Tuesday, “We are sorry to hear of the passing of UK Theatre alum Derek Keeling. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
