(LEX 18)– A Louisiana woman has been arrested on four counts of criminally negligent homicide in connection to a crash that killed a family of four from Lexington.

61-year-old Brenda Lea Kenner has been indicted in the 2016 crash that happened in Texas.

The crash killed 46-year-old Israel Avelar and his three sons, Kevin, Daniel, and Matthew.

Avelar’s wife, daughter, and mother were also hurt in the crash.

The family was heading back to Lexington after attending Avelar’s graduation from a Houston Bible Institute the day before.

A district attorney told a Texas newspaper “wasn’t paying a lot of attention” when her vehicle hit the Avelars’ van from behind.
