MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Officials are trying to figure out what led up to a man being hit and killed by a train in Madison County.

It happened around 11:14 p.m. Sunday at the railroad tracks by Mayde Road in Berea.

Officials say the man was lying down on the tracks when he was hit.

The operator alerted authorities after hitting the man. They said they saw him, but could not stop in time.

The coroner has identified the victim as 38-year-old Douglas James Lacey, of Berea. Lacy was formerly a resident of Georgia but had been living in Kentucky for the last few years.

His cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma.
