FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) – Lawmakers made it clear Tuesday that they may not have a new pension bill ready to go this year, but they’re working on it.

The new Public Pensions Working Group is listening to the breakdown of Kentucky’s current pension system and how we ended up in this mess in the first place.

One of the members of the group is new Representative R. Travis Brenda. He’s the Rockcastle County High School teacher who made good on the promise teachers made to vote last year’s lawmakers out of office.

Now, Brenda is in the group that needs to figure out what to do with the pension system and recommend that to the general assembly next month.

The big question is whether teachers will support that recommendation since they now have Brenda, a current teacher, along with others experienced in education on the inside.
