Authorities have charged 28-year-old Rodney Elam of Mount Vernon on assault and drug charges.

The Madison County Coroner says Sarah Boyken was taken to Lexington and died in Fayette County.

Police said emergency crews were called out Jan. 8 to the McDonald’s at 101 Glades Road and found a woman who was not breathing.

Authorities said Elam had given the woman methamphetamine. Police said Elam was seen carrying the woman into the men’s restroom after she passed out.

Police arrested Elam on Jan. 10 after obtaining an arrest warrant.

He is charged with first-degree assault and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

He was being held in the Madison County Detention Center.
