Harrison Co. Teacher Arrested For Alleged Relationship With Former Student

HARRISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A Harrison County teacher has been arrested after she allegedly engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Kentucky State Police received a complaint Jan. 16 of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student. After investigating the complaint, 37-year-old Amanda Phillips was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse.

Phillips was employed by Harrison County School District as a Special Needs Teacher. The victim in the case was a prior student and was over the age of 12 years old at the time of the relationship.

Detectives are continuing their investigation and confirming that there were no other students involved in a relationship with the teacher.

The school system released the following statement:

In response to the allegations, the accused is no longer employed by the Harrison County Board of Education. Due to the ongoing criminal investigation, we are not permitted to make any comments at this time.
