SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Interstate 75 was shut down for hours Friday morning following an accident where a semi overturned.
It happened around 4:50 a.m. near the 125 mile marker.
Officials say a semi rolled over and lost its load. Both sides of the interstate were covered with dozens of metal gates that the semi was hauling.
Drivers told LEX 18 they saw the semi swerving in and out of traffic for about 10 minutes before it crossed over from the slow lane and crashed into the median.
The driver managed to turn the truck to the right and the cab ended up off the shoulder headed towards the ditch. The bed of the truck was overturned across the lanes of traffic.
The driver of the semi is OK.
Around 8 a.m. crews opened two lanes of traffic back up and are continuing the cleanup on the side of the road. This cleanup could take nearly two hours.
