LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A second flu-related death has been reported in Lexington, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

Officials said the victim was “a person in their 60s with underlying health issues.” The person’s identity has not been released.

The last updated total of confirmed flu cases across the state stands at 3,148. There have been eight reported deaths statewide of people 18 and older, and one death of a person younger than 18. The latest death is not included in that total.

The first official flu-related death in Lexington was reported back in October, also in a person in their 60s.

Health officials are encouraging everyone to get their flu shot, and say it is particularly important for seniors, children and people with other health problems.

“Flu shots are available at most pharmacies and medical providers, as well as 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday in our Public Health Clinic, 650 Newtown Pike,” the Health Department said in a statement. “No appointment is necessary, and the cost for a flu shot is $30. A high-dose vaccine is available for $49 for ages 65 and older. Medicaid/Medicare, cash, checks, credit cards and most insurance plans are accepted.”
