FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18)– This week is National School Choice Week, a week celebrating education across the country.

It’s a non-partisan and non-political public awareness effort to shine a light on the opportunities for kids in every community.

More than 1,000 people are expected to gather at 10 a.m. Thursday at the state capitol for a rally to celebrate school choice.

State Treasurer Alison Ball, House Majority Floor Leader Representative Bam Barney, and Senator Ralph Alvarado will be joining the students, parents, teachers, school administrators, and supporters.

They’re expected to wear yellow scarves showing their collective support.

Supporters say the event will represent shared reflections on how families have benefited from school choice programs.

This week is expected to be the largest series of education-related events and activities with more than 10 million expected to participate nationwide.

In addition to the rally in Frankfort, a student celebration is planned in Madisonville at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ballard Convention Center.

All this to celebrate what schools offer and families’ right to choose a school.
