FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18)– Democratic lawmaker Rocky Adkins has officially filed his paperwork to run for the governor’s office in the 2019 gubernatorial election.

His running mate has been announced as business-owner and attorney Stephanie Horne.

Adkins, the house minority leader, has been serving the state since 1987. He services the 99th district, which covers his home of Elliot County, as well as Lewis and Rowan counties.

“We found out quickly that Kentucky wants a governor they can connect with,” Adkins said. “They want a governor they can talk to. They can carry on a conversation with. They want a governor they believe can work across party aisles and they want a governor that can bring dignity and respect back to the governor’s office and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

Adkins joins Geoff Young and Attorney General Andy Beshear as primary candidates for the Democratic party. Adam Edelen has also announced he will run but has not filed paperwork.

The primary election will be held May 21.
