MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Another cold shot is coming and the Berea Food Pantry, and a new charitable organization, could use some help.

Winter is usually the time of year when the Berea Food Pantry needs the most help.

“Everyone’s utility budget goes up, so they have less money to food budget,” said Tony Crachiolo with the Berea Food Department.

His storage rooms are depleted.

“We saw 30 families last week alone. The average family leaves with 120 pounds of food,” said Crachiolo.

A new charitable organization in Berea, that launched just 10 days ago, also needs donations of a different kind.

“Room In The Inn” is a brand new initiative which offers shelter locations to men, women, and children at different Berea venues each night. Right now, they only have a location for 5 of the 7 nights.

“Room In The Inn” organizer Jackson Napier said that this initiative has worked in other cities, but they’re looking for lodges, faith organizations, and businesses to offer venues.

“In Nashville, they started in single digits.  After 1st season or two, they’re up to 30,” said Napier.

Berea Food Pantry accepts donations on-site at 103 Parkway Avenue behind City Hall. You can also send checks to: Berea Food Bank 108 Berea Food Bank 108 Parkway St. Berea, Ky 40403.

“Room In The Inn” checks can be made out to: BFCO-RITI 108 Parkway Street Berea, Ky 40403.
