LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– City officials say the weather has created problems that have caused Lexington’s recycling center to temporarily shut down.

The city says mechanical failures were caused, in part, by excessively wet recyclables and freezing temperatures which jammed conveyor belts and caused electrical failures.

The backup will cause materials collected Friday to be taken to the city’s transfer station where they will be processed and sent to a landfill.

Officials hope to have everything up and running by Monday.
