LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– The city’s recycling center will be accepting material again Monday after weather caused a mechanical break-down.

Officials say excessively wet recyclables and freezing temperatures jammed the conveyor belts and caused electrical failures.

Due to the backup, materials collected Friday were taken to the city’s transfer station and then sent to a landfill.

Officials say you can help prevent future mechanical issues by making sure the things you put into blue carts and recycling dumpsters are dry and protected from rain and snow.
