CAMPBELL COUNTY, Ky. (WCPO)– An elderly woman with dementia was struck and killed by a train Monday morning in Dayton.

It happened around 8:40 a.m. on 6th Avenue between Main and Benham Streets.

Police on scene told WCPO the train operator saw 73-year-old Elsa Hall on the tracks, but was unable to stop the train in time.

Hall wandered away from her home earlier that morning, according to police.

Sixth Avenue is closed while police investigate. The road is expected to be closed until at least 11 a.m.
