MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — In Madison County, one college was shut down due to the cold temperatures and another was in session.

At Eastern Kentucky University, classes were cancelled and students were given the chance to stay in and bundle up. At Berea College, students had classes.

“We were all staying up last night to see if our president would email us,” said Bashiri Sawyer, a student at Berea College. She attended three classes today, making about six trips into the cold temperatures.

President Lyle Roelofs did send an email to give students pointers on how to be safe in the cold. Not everyone was disappointed in Berea’s decision.

“I’m glad we still have classes. It shows our academic rigor in tough conditions,” said Amer Follin, a student at Berea College.
