LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– ‘Go Red For Women’ is an annual campaign that helps raise awareness about heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in women.

Health experts say nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented through education and making lifestyle changes, like eating better, exercising more, and managing blood pressure.

On Friday, several events in Lexington are seeking to raise awareness on National Wear Red Day.

The American Heart Association and CHI Saint Joseph Health will have free health screenings at Macy’s in Fayette Mall.

The screens are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Heart Ball, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is also happening Friday at the Lexington Center. However, registration for the event closed Jan. 25.
