MOREHEAD, Ky. (LEX 18) — A major wreck Saturday morning near the Rowan-Carter county line was made worse when a responding ambulance was hit in a multiple-vehicle pileup that shut down Interstate Highway 64 for hours.
The city of Morehead posted a message after 7 a.m. on its officials Facebook account alerting people to the problems.
The Olive Hill Fire Department assistant chief tells LEX 18 that four semis and four passenger cars were involved in the initial crash and that the ambulance was hit on the scene.

The post said several vehicles were involved in a crash, including a tractor trailer, and that “hazardous material” was involved.
The post cautioned drivers to avoid the area. It also said road crews were out treating widespread black ice.
