BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – Sunday’s services at a Bourbon County church took on a special meaning for its members.

Sunday worship was held at the Silas Baptist Church for the first time since July, when a car slammed into the building.

The 200-year-old church sustained major damage when the driver lost control, veered off the roadway and drove about 20 feet into the building.

4 church members suffered minor injuries in the crash, they are said to be doing well.

It took months for $80,000 worth of repairs to be made; in the meantime services were held in their family life center.

Also in the months since the crash, the congregation has increased by 30 percent, and on Sunday church leaders commemorated the challenge they overcame by re-dedicating the church.

“I’m just overjoyed. I’m overjoyed at the turnout we’ve had today. I was overjoyed the night of the wreck when the whole community came out to support us,” said Pastor Curtis Coots.
