LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Police say that a woman in Lexington was robbed at gunpoint and forced to ride around in her car with a man who she says drove her to an ATM to get out more money.

It happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday in the parking structure at St. Joseph Hospital near Harrodsburg Road.

Police say that the woman was walking to her car when a man came up behind her, pulled out a gun, and asked her for all of the money in her purse. She complied, but police say the robber said that it wasn’t enough money and forced her into her car.

He drove her to a bank ATM to take out more money, then police say he drove her to a church parking lot.

Authorities say he told the victim to sit still and not do anything for five minutes and that he would leave the keys to her car around the church.

He took her phone and left.

After waiting, she found her keys and drove back to the hospital where police say she called them.

Police describe the man as a white male in his 20’s with a goatee, wearing a dark grey sweatshirt, and camo pants.

St. Joseph Hospital has released a statement on the incident:

The safety of our employees, patients and visitors is our top priority. We continue to work with Lexington Police as they investigate the incident in the employee parking garage at Saint Joseph Hospital. We have increased security presence at the hospital and are continually evaluating opportunities to increase safety measures on our campus. We have security officers available to escort people to their vehicles and we encourage everyone to have a vigilant awareness of their surroundings.
