LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Fayette County Public Schools is looking for suggestions to help name the new elementary school under construction on Athens Boonesboro Road.

“This is an exciting time for our community,” said Josh Williams, principal of the new elementary school. “We want everyone to feel a part of this process.”

The naming policy says that the school must be named for a geographical area of Lexington/Fayette County or a prominent deceased person who contributed to the history and/or progress of the Lexington/Fayette County area or nation.

The naming committee has heard from 294 members of the community and received 27 different suggestions. The naming committee is made up of families whose children will attend the new school, school and district leaders, community representatives and elected officials from the area.

Nominations can be submitted in three ways:

1) Online at bit.ly/namingABE (link is case sensitive)

2) Via email at jessica.greene@fayette.kyschools.us

3) Via mail at New Elementary School Naming Committee, 1126 Russell Cave Road, Lexington, KY 40505.

Submissions via email or mail must include: 1) suggested name for the new elementary school, 2) rationale, 3) your first and last name, and 4) your email address.

The school will open in August of 2019.
