BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– An Indiana man is dead after a multi-vehicle accident in Boone County.

It happened around 2:20 a.m. Friday on Burlington Pike at the intersection of Aero Parkway in Florence.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, 36-year-old Joseph Sohmer, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., was traveling westbound on Burlington Pike when he reportedly ran a red light and T-boned a semi, operated by 53-year-old Stanley Prather, of Hamilton, Ohio.

Sohmer’s vehicle continued underneath the trailer where it eventually exited into a nearby grass embankment and came to final rest position.

Prather’s vehicle immediately stopped after the collision, causing it to block all lanes of northbound Aero Parkway. All of westbound Burlington Pike at the intersection was closed during the collision investigation.

Officials say Sohmer was not wearing his seat belt, and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Burlington Fire/EMS. Prather was not injured in the collision.

Alcohol and speed are suspected factors in the collision.
