LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Columbia Gas of Kentucky crews will clear a natural gas line that runs along New Circle Road on Saturday.

This is part of the company’s mandated work to relocate its pipeline for the Kentucky Department of Transportation’s road widening project.

Columbia Gas is required to install about 15,000 feet of pipe overall for the project, and crews currently are working between Georgetown Road and Boardwalk Avenue.

During the procedure, citizens may hear the shrill of the natural gas and/or smell its rotten-egg odor. However, the process is closely monitored and ensures that any residual natural gas is vented from the old line before it is retired.

Customers with questions or concerns — or who smell natural gas in their homes during the procedure — can call the Columbia Gas emergency line at 1-800-432-9515.

Transportation officials say this procedure will not block any lanes or close any roadways.
